Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the Chalk It In app for iOS ("App"), developed by Codepappa ("we", "us", or "our"). Please read it carefully before using the App.

The short version: Chalk It In is designed with privacy as a core principle. The App works without requiring you to create an account. Your saved links, schedules, labels, and notes stay on your device or in your private iCloud data if you use iCloud backup. We use limited, privacy-filtered analytics and crash diagnostics to improve the app, and we do not sell your data or use advertising trackers.

Information We Do Not Collect

  • We do not require an account.
  • We do not collect your name, phone number, Apple ID, or payment card details.
  • We do not track your location.
  • We do not run advertising SDKs.
  • We do not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
  • We do not send your saved URLs, bookmark titles, page titles, notes, search text, or Report a Problem message text to analytics or crash reporting tools.
  • We do not build advertising profiles about you.

Analytics

Chalk It In uses PostHog for limited product analytics so we can understand whether core features are working well, such as saving a link, scheduling it, starting Focus Mode, completing an item, importing bookmarks, or submitting a problem report.

Analytics collection is optional in App Store builds. You can choose during onboarding and change your choice later in Settings, unless you are using a beta build.

Beta builds, including TestFlight builds, collect usage analytics and crash diagnostics by default to help us improve the app before release.

Analytics events use broad categories and counts. For example, we may record that a saved link was a general web page or YouTube link, but we do not send the actual URL or title.

Crash Diagnostics and Operational Errors

Chalk It In uses Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and limited operational failure diagnostics. This helps us find and fix problems such as failed notification scheduling, failed metadata fetches, iCloud backup or restore errors, share extension save failures, purchase restore failures, and problem-report email handoff failures.

Crash diagnostics are collected in App Store and TestFlight builds.

Crash reports and operational error reports use stable technical categories and context such as app version, build number, feature area, operation, broad source type, and whether the work happened in the background. We do not send saved URLs, bookmark titles, page titles, notes, search text, free-text problem reports, email addresses, or raw error descriptions to Crashlytics.

Problem Reports and Contact Email

  • If you use Report a Problem, the app creates a prefilled email to support.
  • Your problem description is placed in the email draft only. It is not sent to analytics or Crashlytics.
  • You may optionally include a contact email address in the report. If you turn on Save Contact Email, that address is stored locally on your device so it can be reused in future reports.
  • Analytics only records whether a contact email was provided, not the email address itself.

How Your Data Is Stored

On Your Device

All bookmarks, schedules, labels, and preferences are stored using Apple’s on-device data framework. If iCloud is enabled for Chalk It In on your device, Apple may sync this app data through your personal iCloud account using CloudKit. This sync is handled by Apple and tied to your Apple ID; we does not operate a bookmark server or have access to your iCloud data.

iCloud Backup and Restore (Optional)

If you use iCloud backup or restore, your App data is stored in your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit framework. This data is:

  • Encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple.
  • Accessible only to you via your Apple ID.
  • Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

We do not have access to your private iCloud backup data.

URL Metadata

When you add a URL to the App, Chalk It In may fetch publicly available metadata, such as page title, estimated reading time, or video duration, from that URL to help you identify your bookmarks. This request is made directly from your device to the website. We do not send your saved URLs or fetched metadata to analytics or crash reporting tools.

Notifications

The App uses iOS local notifications to remind you about scheduled bookmarks. Notification data is processed entirely on your device by Apple's UserNotifications framework. No notification content is sent to us.

Purchases (Chalk It In Pro)

If you purchase Chalk It In Pro, the transaction is processed by Apple through Apple In-App Purchase. We use RevenueCat as a StoreKit management layer to verify and manage your purchase entitlement.

RevenueCat may collect anonymized purchase and entitlement data associated with your Apple App Store receipt. RevenueCat does not receive your name or Apple ID. You can review RevenueCat's privacy practices at revenuecat.com/privacy.

Apple's handling of payment data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Children's Privacy

Chalk It In is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Your Rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have rights under applicable law (including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, PDPA, LGPD, and equivalent regional laws) to:

  • Access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you.
  • Object to or restrict processing of your personal data.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Because Chalk It In does not require an account and keeps your saved content local or in your private iCloud data, we usually cannot identify an individual user's app content. If you contact us for support, we will use the information you send only to respond to your request. If you have questions about how Apple, RevenueCat, PostHog, Firebase, or Google handle data as service providers, please refer to their respective privacy policies.
