Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the Chalk It In app for iOS ("App"), developed by Codepappa ("we", "us", or "our"). Please read it carefully before using the App.

Information Excluded From Analytics

Analytics

Analytics is optional in both App Store and TestFlight builds. You can choose whether to enable it and change your choice in Settings. Your choice does not affect saving content, purchasing Pro or restoring purchases.

When enabled, PostHog receives selected events such as saving, scheduling, starting Focus, completing an item, viewing a paywall and trial, purchase or restore outcomes. Events use fixed categories and relevant count or duration buckets.

A random installation identifier connects these events across visits. This is pseudonymous analytics: it lets us recognize an installation's activity without asking for your name or email address.

We do not record session replay or automatically capture arbitrary screen contents and interactions.

Turning analytics off stops future analytics collection. It does not automatically delete information already collected.

For events received from October 20, 2026, our PostHog ingestion transformation is configured to remove IP address and geographical properties before events are stored. Network requests necessarily expose an IP address to the receiving infrastructure; this is different from storing it in our analytics events. This change does not delete historical records.

PostHog analytics events have a one-year retention window. Events outside that window are excluded from analytics queries; this window does not guarantee deletion of older events or other stored records. See PostHog’s event retention documentation for details. PostHog event retention.

Crash Diagnostics and Operational Errors

Starting with version 1.1.0 (build 39), Chalk It In does not send crash reports or operational errors to Firebase Crashlytics or PostHog error tracking. Apple may provide crash and diagnostic reports through its own reporting services, subject to Apple's sharing settings and TestFlight practices. These reports can contain technical diagnostic information.

Optional diagnostics included in a support email are described separately below.

Problem Reports and Contact Email

Report a Problem prepares an email draft in your mail app. The report is sent only when you choose to send it from that app.

We receive the report text, your sender email address, your sender display name when present, and any preferred contact address you include. If you choose Include Diagnostics, the draft includes app version, build, app environment, iOS version and device type.

We use this information to investigate and respond to your request. Report text and contact details are not sent to PostHog.

Save Contact Email stores your preferred contact address locally for future drafts. It does not send the address to analytics.

We retain support correspondence, including sender names, email addresses, report text and any included diagnostics, for up to one year from receipt, then delete it.

How Your Data Is Stored

On Your Device

Chalk It In stores bookmarks, schedules, labels, takeaways and preferences on your device.

Automatic iCloud Sync

When iCloud is available and enabled for Chalk It In, supported app content can sync automatically through your private iCloud database. We do not operate a bookmark-content server or have developer access to read that private database.

Optional Backup and Restore

The optional backup feature creates additional snapshots containing bookmarks, labels, takeaways and scheduling information in your private iCloud database. These snapshots are separate from automatic sync and can be used by the app's restore feature. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's privacy practices.

URL Metadata

When you save a URL, your device may contact that website to retrieve information such as its title or estimated duration. The website receives the network request and its associated connection information, including an IP address. Saved URLs and retrieved page content are not sent to PostHog.

Notifications

The App uses iOS local notifications to remind you about scheduled bookmarks. Notification content is processed on your device by Apple's UserNotifications framework. No notification content is sent to us.

Purchases (Chalk It In Pro)

Apple processes purchases. RevenueCat validates purchase records and manages Pro access using a generated app user identifier and purchase-service metadata.

The Pro trial is free, lasts seven days and does not automatically convert into a paid purchase. Pro is available as a one-time purchase for lifetime access.

If analytics is enabled, PostHog records trial, purchase and restore outcomes using its own installation identifier. PostHog and RevenueCat use separate identifiers; we do not forward RevenueCat server events to PostHog.

RevenueCat states that customer country comes from the purchase transaction when available, or otherwise from an IP-address lookup, and that the IP address is discarded after country determination. Country information can remain associated with the RevenueCat customer record. Our app does not send names, email addresses or phone numbers to RevenueCat as customer attributes.

Earlier Versions and Historical Records

Earlier versions may continue their previous analytics and Firebase crash-reporting behavior until updated. Historical analytics include records with IP-derived geographical information. Some earlier builds also included an analytics-identifier bridge to RevenueCat. That bridge was not part of App Store version 1.0.0 (build 33).

Changes to future collection do not automatically delete historical records. We will update this policy when historical cleanup has been completed and verified.

Children's Privacy

Chalk It In is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post changes at this URL with an updated date and describe material changes. We will request consent where required by applicable law.

Your Rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have rights under applicable law (including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, PDPA, LGPD, and equivalent regional laws) to:

• Access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you.
• Object to or restrict processing of your personal data.
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
• Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Contact admin@codepappa.com for privacy questions or requests. Because the app does not require an account, we may need additional information to locate relevant service records. We will explain what information is necessary and assess the request under applicable law. Your private iCloud content is managed through your Apple account and the app's available controls.
